DomeThe Nation Municipality has decided to move forward on a new plan to meet the Village of Limoges’ recreation needs. The motion was passed by council at Town Hall at the Monday, April 9, 2018 meeting. Ward 4 Councillor Francis Brière called it their “Plan B” after he confirmed that The Nation Municipality had walked away from a potential agreement with St. Joseph Developments.

The Nation Municipality has been canvassing local residents for several years on their needs in Ward 4, which predominantly includes the Village of Limoges. The Nation Municipality had been working closely with St. Joseph Developments on a potential solution for both a SportsPlex and community centre to be built off Savage Road in the heart of Limoges.

According to The Nation Municipality Strategic Plan 2034, published in October 2014, The Nation intends to “identify and acquire a site for a new major recreation/community facility in Limoges (10 to 15 acres)” and “commence phased construction” before 2020. As part of its Social Sustainability Pillar, the plan also notes that The Nation will “determine uses to be included in the Limoges recreation/community facility.”

As part of a next step, The Nation Municipality has circled April 25 as the first in a series of Limoges stakeholder consultation sessions to take place in April and May.
